Steeple Water Damage Repair vs Replacement

Steeple Water Damage Repair vs Replacement

There’s something so comforting about seeing a church steeple rising straight toward the heavens. It’s an inspiring testament to faith, and a proud symbol of man’s commitment to gather, and to worship together as a community.

But as with any architectural structure, churches do suffer from the wear and tear that come over years of service out in the elements.  And water damage can be a big detriment to the structural integrity of your church steeple.  A compromised steeple can be a safety hazard for your church congregants and surrounding environs.

Kivetts Fine Church Furniture has been repairing and replacing church steeples due to weather-related issues for decades, and we’d be happy to come check the integrity of your church steeple and consult with you on available options if there are signs of excessive wear or damage. You can contact a Kivetts project specialist today by calling (800) 334-1139, or simply fill out our convenient online form.

Some obvious signs to look for if you think your structure may be compromised are mold and mildew. If your steeple is wooden, these are indicators that it’s at risk for wood rot and damage.  If you have a fiberglass steeple and see signs of mold and mildew, be aware that uninhibited mold growth can deteriorate the steeple coating, exposing the fiberglass underneath. Unprotected fiberglass that is exposed to UV light can weaken structurally, and that can lead to water getting into hairline cracks, and cause bigger issues.  Our Kivett’s steeple experts can examine the causes behind mold and mildew growth on the steeple or around its base, and perform mitigation measures and repair.

As with all aspects of owning and operating a building, maintenance is key to the operational health of your facility. Ideally, you’ll call us for regular steeple inspection to catch or prevent problems before they grow into bigger issues.  For instance, if you have water damage on sanctuary ceilings or walls, that’s a sure indicator that there is a fail-point on your roof or steeple where water is getting in. It could even be an issue of worn or inadequate sealing at the joist where your steeple meets the roof.  Kivetts can handle those repairs for you and can maintain your steeple integrity to prevent additional problems.

As storms can also affect your steeple structure, we recommend a lightning protection kit, which we can sell and install for you. The kit is an extra layer of protection for your steeple cross and roof in case of lightning strike.

Kivetts can also replace your steeple if needed.  For more than half a century, churches have turned to us for fine church furnishings and molded fiberglass steeples. Our architectural division also offers fiberglass cornices, balustrades, and columns. We construct the unique one-piece fiberglass steeples on site at our Clinton, North Carolina location.  Our design services will help you choose which design works best for your church home.  You can see some examples of our work on our steeple gallery page.
