What Components Make Up a Steeple?

As a visible reminder of our path to heaven, and a comforting presence as a beacon of hope to the community, the church steeple is widely recognized around the world. As time and technology has marched on, the components of today’s steeples have changed as well.

Most communities no longer need a central clock tower, so today’s steeples typically do not include that timepiece. Modern fiberglass steeples that Kivett’s custom designs and manufactures are predominantly made up of these parts: spire, lantern, and belfry. These architectural features combine to complement the overall design of your church.

Why Fiberglass Steeples?

Over the more than 6 decades since the Kivett family began building steeples from our Clinton, North Carolina location, components and materials have changed for the better. Today, Kivett’s manufactures custom steeples from molded fiberglass out of our Clinton facility. Using our unique one-piece construction method, we’re able to deliver a rigidly constructed, proportionately designed steeple that boasts a uniform appearance. In addition, molded fiberglass steeples require only minimum maintenance, while delivering a high-quality attractive design element for your church building.

Churches throughout the US have trusted the Kivett family with their steeple needs- in fact, the second generation of Kivetts now works in the business. We recognize that our success is due in part to the quality and service we consistently offer congregations all over the country.

Protecting Your Church Steeple

Most church steeples of old were constructed of wood that was susceptible to all kinds of maintenance issues: wood rot, insects, wear and tear from the elements, paint chipping, and the danger of fire. While our Kivett’s fiberglass steeples are far more durable than traditional wooden steeples, we know that even today’s steeples require some level of maintenance to retain their beauty and durability. We offer our Church Steeple Maintenance Program to help keep your steeple looking and performing its best. Better to have our professionals access the height and sometimes awkward placement required by a steeple, than to risk asking church members to do the job. Our team are steeple maintenance experts, and our service is an affordable option that will add years to your investment. As part of the Maintenance program, our skilled technicians will come out annually, access your steeple and inspect it for leakage, secure anchor bolts that may have loosed due to weather conditions, and re-caulk and seal any visible cracks. We then wash and wax the steeple to help it maintain its beauty.

As with any construction element, by detecting any problems early you can eliminate costly repairs later. This retards deterioration, protects the steeple’s exterior finish, and saves your church money in the long run.

We even offer our Kivett’s Church Steeple Maintenance Program to you regardless of steeple manufacturer- that’s how strongly we believe that regular maintenance can extend the life of your steeple, and help you best steward your investment.

Because of the unpredictability of weather, Kivetts also offers lighting protection in conjunction with your new steeple purchase and installation. That can help prevent costly damage caused by power surges. Just fill out our online contact form for more information.
